On a reread, I need to edit my statement. Jonan in this page entirely is perfect.
I love that Jonan has gone from "grump who doesn't care what happens to the gang" to "protectively pulls Tareth away from a Scary Thing". Beautiful.

Impulsive teen + secret you can't reveal to people you just freaking met is like the perfect disaster recipe, though. Like, of course this is going to go poorly, but it's still painful to watch.
On the other, less sympathetic hand; Jonan, when are you going to write "He's a witch" in all-caps on a piece of paper and hold it over Xira's head? I know you kinda want to. (Maybe just go over your finger-spelling notes and do that instead, if you wanna be subtle about it?)

Totally! Even if she's pretty dang sure her box is aberrant-proof (and I'm willing to bet that's very much a "Maybe??!?") it's super uncool of Xira to shove Æmber into a mass of tentacles with no warning! (And Sev doesn't seem particularly keen on this either.)

Tbh, I'd be good if he goes the blackmail route. Jonan just seems the type that, even if he keeps Xira's secret for whatever reason, would be kinda frustrated no one else had figured it out when Xira's not reeeally being all that subtle.

I honestly think that if ANYONE is going to understand Xira's situation (having an ability that carries with it some negative connotations in their society) it's going to be Jonan. So I figure he gets /why/ Xira hasn't outed himself and is waiting to see his true colors before he does anything about it, if anything at all.

I probably need to do some re-reading, but do we have reason to believe Jonan has definitely clued in on Xira's abilities before now, or is he just now putting everything together and realising that Xira's keeping something back/what that is.

He's at least already highly suspicious- Xira had to modify the memories of the lady who rehydrated Jonan because she's the one who usually deals with Jonan's victims, and usually there's no way she'd not remember him, let alone help him.

Yeah, their experience with the elemental is probably the most suspicious moment from Jonan's point of view, and Jonan himself has pretty strongly implied that he knows something's up.

Poor Sev. he is so utterly, and mercilessly splorched.
And poor AEmber, she must be freaked a bit, even tho impenetrable forcefield.
And poor Tari, she is so shoced, and understandebly.
And poor Jonan, he is surrounded by idiots.
And poor Xira just wants to help but this is getting out of control. SO out of control. He didn't sign up for this when he volunteered to help a cute girl lost in the crowd.

Sev is killing me on this page. He looks so taken off guard on page one Like, "Why did you bring her?" and on panel three that one eye just makes me think "OMG, WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!" And he looks so annoyed in the fifth panel. An annoyed mass of tentacles and eyes. (And that's not to mention how ticked off Æmber is.)
Also, Jonan's expressions are great as always. I think it's nice how Jonan looks like he's stepping between Tarri and aberrant-Sev in panels three and four. Jonan can be a gentleman!

re: Sev -- right? All the expressions are great but the wounded expression of the splorched eyes seen through the forcefield in panel 3!!!
Though I'm having trouble seeing him as offended so much as going haaaalp in panel 5, maybe i'm reading the eyes wrong?

His eyes seem to show a wide range of emotions. In panel 5, The bottom-most eye (the one closest to Xira's hand) looks like "I am so done with this." The one above that seems to have more of the "Haaaalp!" expression. The one closest to Xira's face seems annoyed. The smaller eye that's in the middle of all these make me think of a shocked, or in pain expression. That's just my interpretation though!
