Probably rightly so. Energybenders can manipulate the four classical elements which, whilst potentially dangerous, is hard to hide. Sure, shapeshifters could probably turn you into a newt, but you'd get better. As for life mages, they seem like clerics or druids in a setting where CoDzilla is thankfully averted.

But witches? Man, all reading your mind and controlling your body, combined with a bunch of other freaky powers, allegedly. They might not use those powers for harm, but it's gotta make people paranoid; gotta make 'em all with the being distrustful.

(As for CODzilla being averted, I think it's mostly averted b/c the different things clerics can do tend to be split up. Runewriter healers don't also control nature, and runewriters with nature magic can't also cast debilitating death magic, etc etc.
