Oh man I totally believe that's true in Varænske. And just give a character hair fading to black and he's INSTANTLY villainous.

Yes, another incantation phrase to work with! Also, witches totally are the go-to culprits in cheap mystery novels (The mind-mage, via Colonel Mustard, in the conservatory, with the candlestick.)
