Wait a minute...

Are shapechangers able to change their hair colour tip thingies? From what I recall, Sev is greenish in pretty much all his forms. But that might just be because he's all with the animal forms and not trying to imitate other humans.

I think he was more picturing an aberrant shapeshifter, like that bird that wasn't a bird at the beginning of things. Except... He probably wouldn't be offering the advice of 'your going to get yourself killed' to an aberrant...

Maybe he didn't completely think it through, and/or a shapeshifter working out the hair color (but not so well he/she/it wasn't wearing a hood?) seemed less implausible than Jonan asking for help?

The short answer is, it's possible to do that with shapechanging magic!

But yeah, Sev can't do it. That colour is hard to get rid of and you kind of have to be super specialised to even start developing a rune that'll do that.

Though the suggestion that it just seemed possible may not be far from the truth. Most people, even runewriters, don't know the precise limits of magic that isn't their own. Unless you personally know a shapechanger who has informed you that it's impossible to get rid of a runewriter's caster colour, there'd be no reason to think SOMEONE can't do that.

(Fun fact: Jonan has studied this stuff more, and knows it's possible. This is the real reason why his doorkeeper isn't supposed to let anyone in if they don't know the password, even if they look just like Jonan.)
