I think I am vaaaaaguely remembering a previous comment-discussion in which the artist may have said the scalp-markings are natural, and why shaving your head does not disguise that you have magic?

Jonan is centered in the image, and green guy is nearby. The fact that he's angled to catch more bright sunlight across his back makes his figure "pop" more, IMO.

I briefly considered making the rollover say "NOBODY IN PANEL ONE IS IMPORTANT" but then I realised that would just make people very convinced that someone important is hiding in that panel. xD
But no, they're all just background people, haha. I should put cameos in scenes like this but I always forget!!
As to the discussions of artistic technique, I actually do this on every page! Foreground people/ major characters blend in with the background less and get stronger line weight. I have a fondness for line weight that has to do with which elements are closer to the viewer!
Lots of other things (like the lighting Kwaj mentioned) play into it, but those are definitely factors.
But thank you! I'M GLAD IT'S WORKIN' FOR YOU. *u*

...well, except of course for Jonan...
I thought this gave a nice intro for the panel 2 movement.

Love the detail in panel 1; I had to check if we've seen any of the BG characters. I don't think we have, but it's neat that for the green-clothed blond in panels 2 and 3 you...made the line width a bit thicker and maybe upped the color saturation, I think? He and Jonan 'pop' a little more, at any rate. Also, red head-tats make a reappearance. Scholarly symbol? World's thinnest toupée?
