On the one hand (pun not intended) I am terrified on Xira's behalf, I mean that was a really close call that he didn't lose more than a finger in his attempt to help. Like one of those "Holy CRAP that could have been bad" moments
On the other hand it's fascinating to know that limbstealing is not a conscious effort of facestealers, it's just constant function. Because I'm pretty sure Sev has no real need of a pinky right now.

That's okay, I managed to miss both the cloth and the finger and had no idea what Tareth was referring to in that last panel. Then I saw a comment about the fabric, went back and looked and was all "oh yeah, I missed that" and STILL didn't notice the finger until I saw Karen's comment. I would like to blame it on the fact that I'm tired, but really I'm just unobservant.

yeah omg I'm torn between being terrified for the characters and feeling that anything TOO unfixably bad probably wouldn't go with the tone of the comic. After all, Jonan's not dead yet despite not being able to drink water, right? (right? Sev will be ok i think. i hooope)

The one dubiously encouraging point I ran across in my reread was that the previous facestealer encounter involved it mimicking a person it had just eaten. It got the accent wrong and got stabbed, but... um, there's a possibility Sev can learn to shapeshift back into his own usual shape, more or less, rather than gloopy mess and/or door?
...I did say dubiously encouraging.

Now, the thing is, people have been talking about the hunters being more trigger happy than usual, and talking about things going wrong or strange. The aberrants are common knowledge, and it seems they've been around for long enough that full institutions for dealing with them have sprung up. If how aberrants had always come to be was that a runewriter turns into an aberrant, it'd be hard to keep that completely secret like this. I don't think runewriters turning into aberrants is how they normally work, I think it's only started happening recently.

I love the "Heeeyyyyy guys!!" panel. Both expressions are perfect.
Also, I must offer you kudos, because I feel like you've made a faceless tentacled mass tug at my heartstrings. Poor Sev. I can only imagine what's going through his head (I mean, wait, mind would be a better word) in that third panel.

Lessons I have just learned, thanks to today's installment:
1. Even if you don't want random passersby to notice your friend, who is now an aberrant, DO NOT try to shove him back into anywhere.
2. If you happen to have the bad luck to run into a facestealer and it manages to steal a body part, you will not bleed to death and it will probably be more surprising than painful - hey, silver lining!
3. Tareth is a much more observant person than I am (and I thought I was a very observant person, so now I'm going to have to redouble my observing efforts).
I guess this last one isn't so much a lesson as it is an observation, however . . .
Also, I really love Xira running through the panel border - very creative! (I almost made an "outside the box" joke, but I managed to hold myself back!)
And Sev's multitude of eyes, in the third panel, all look so worried, sad, frightened, and lost, that I really want to give him a big hug right now . . . except, you know, lesson number 1.

This is a super small/off-topic detail but what is that creature in the background of the first panel? I see what looks like another rabbit-bird like Xira's sitting on the ground, but there's another critter above it with this fringe around its head and I am intrigued.
