oh i love charades!

as always, there's an extra doodle if you vote!

P.S.: this is a bit random, but I've been talking with some other cartoonists about how people find webcomics, and that made me curious -- how did you guys find Runewriters? I made a lil poll thing and I'd be really interested if you could take a sec to answer! :D

Vote Incentive for This Comic.

Re: The poll, I think I found Runewriters after discovering and bingeing on Today Nothing Happened (I don't remember what lead to me reading *that*, though). I recall also seeing ads on TopWebComics for Runewriters at that time.

Re: The page, this seems like the perfect time for something to "disappear" Tareth.

I think I found runewriters by going through the list on piperka.net . I look at anything in the top 100 or so with an interesting name.

I don't remember where I found the link to RW, but I do remember at one point reading RW, TNH, Sorcery101, and another TNH-like comic by two other ladies at SCAD, one of whom (in the comic) cursed in Mandalorian. So prolly S101 because it was the most popular at the time.

I've been around since TNH, but it think I found that on TWC. I remember the first comic of yours I read was the Braille in the snow comic.

Yeah, I think I found TNH on topwebcomics too. I couldn't vote though, bc the page just loads eternally when I want it to acknowledge that I'm not a robot... *cries in robotic

We’re suddenly in the process of adopting a deaf 10-year-old Navajo girl and it seems like everyone I know is sending me links to comics with deaf characters. The school sent her in our direction late last spring because they knew that my kid and her friends use sign language a lot. Unfortunately we only knew Native American Sign Language - the Apache began using NASL decades ago to highlight key words, usually enough for people who speak different dialects of the Apache language to understand one another. We’ve had to learn ASL in a hurry.

Hah! I didn't even notice the door was gone until Jonan pointed it out. (But what happened to the real door?)

Also, I don't really remember how I found this comic. But as a deaf person living in a hearing world, my life can get a little isolating sometimes, and I'll occasionally scan the internet for things associated with deaf/hard-of-hearing experiences. One of those searches probably brought me here.

I found Runewriters through a link on a facebook group with a name somewhere along the lines of 'Deaf Teens'.

I would be very, very suspicious of any doors or pieces of furniture inside the room that nobody remembers seeing before.

Wait, do you think it's a mimic? First time I assumed it was a sort if illusion (but that would make no sense in the world - why would you make the _outside_ of a door scary when no one sees it?); or that the ghost has possessed the door. I didn't think the ghost WAS the door... This is going to be a fun night at funland for the team.

I think consensus was that the door was a facestealer, which is basically a mimic.

Honestly, what I was thinking is I had a mental image of the be-eyeballed door growing many tiny legs and sneaking inside. I'm currently out of my mind trying to study for exams and that (greatly amusing to me) mental image is all I have. No serious analysis here :P

I don't remember how I found Runewriters specifically. But I can tell you the ways I find new comics to read.

1. Ads on the comics I'm already reading.
2. Lists the webcomic creator puts up on their webcomic site of their favorite comics.
3. TopWebcomics list.

First I look for an "About" page or any description of what the comic is about. If it looks interesting, I check the latest page to make sure it is still updating or completed. Then I bookmark it into my New Comics folder. By the time I get around to reading it, I have no idea how I found it.

Similar thing: I have NO idea how I found this comic. I do remember it was from JUST before the hiatus (I am so glad I didnt kill another webcomic by reading it ;) )

my list: #1) recommended web-comics list from comic I read,
#2) Fan saying you should totally read this in the comments of webcomics i read (and I REALLY like, or I don't read the comments)
#3) Topwebcomics/adds/etc. This is actually pretty infrequent. Its gotta look/sound interesting (and I probably have to have seen it a bunch before I click)

Don't remember exactly, but I find most of my webcomics through recommendations from comic authors whose work I respect and enjoy.

I tried a few from the top of TopWebComics a few times, and was disappointed. My taste does not apparently match the average internet voter's.

I've also found one or two through miscellaneous means, including ads and TVtropes.

Definitely a follower from the TNH days, probably in the first or second year of it... I thiiiink one of my friends posted a link to ome of the pages, but I'm kinda guessing.

This must max out the possible number of speech bubbles between two people who can't actually communicate.

I remember noticing the comic's name in a link on another comic I was enjoying, but I can't remember which one, plus an ad... somewhere else, a bit later, that jogged me into reading. Initially it must have been about a couple of months before you started to update again.

I just love the faces in this page! Jonan certainly seems to be getting into the whole expressing thing, and for more of a repertoire than Bored, Disgusted, Angry, You-are-an-idiot-who-is-beneath-me. He realised quickly that Tareth was the most likely to get him even without lip reading (well, that and he thinks Sev is an idiot and he doesn't trust Xira much). Necropony is so attentive to him, like a big, reanimated dog :) I hope we find out a little of the backstory there one day. Also, I'm assuming Æmber is okay in her protective shield, but that is another interesting thing.

I love this comic :)

he's getting there maybe someday he'll even branch out into emotions that can be expressed with something other than a frown....

His frowns are all very expressive though - he really does portray a wide-range of emotions just with his eyebrows! (Also, if he ever suddenly started smiling or being giddy I would be very, very, very disturbed.)

Wow, I wasn't expecting the poll to have that many long-time fans. That's kinda neat and makes me want to check out some of your other work.

I found it on TopWebComics. The art in the banner looked good so I popped in and pretty much enjoyed it immediately.

I'm just happy that I've been with this comic and Today Nothing Happened since the beginning. Literally the beginning with TNH.

I love this page. It's like Sherlock Holmes, except Sherlock is a necromancer who can't speak and Watson is a deaf girl. So it's really nothing like Sherlock Holmes at all. But, the fact still stands I love this page!

I found the comic early, and I'm pretty sure it was via Sorcery 101. I'd be much less confident that I was remembering that correctly if it weren't for Squiggles's comment.

I'm with Runewriters because I followed TNH, and I found TNH through a banner ad on a webcomic I was already reading. That's generally my source of new comics to read.

Also, Jonan doing charades is the best thing ever.

I think I found Runewrites via an io9 article that a forgotten someone else linked to or maybe I web-wandered my way to. *shrugs* I just dimly remember going, "Deaf girl + fantasy setting. Hmm." Came for deaf girl, stayed for the nightmare-inducing aberrations!

This page is pretty great. So many good expressions and body language bits. But, Tareth, why are you not more bothered by the missing door? The door is missing. That's beyond mild weirdness and creepy even if you limit the explanations to the mundane.

I am annoyed that TWC changed their voting page. Currently, it shows a random character that you must match the name to. But before, it would then give a link on the side to the comic that character was from after you voted. Now? Those links are no longer given. I had found quite a few comics from those character vote icons, after being interested in the quick sample of art style and character design.

I honestly can't remember how I found Runewriters, but knowing me it was probably just randomly jumping around and looking at random stuff and I just stumbled across TNH and Runewriters at the same time...

That said, most of the stuff I read I find by either tvtropes, tumblr, or get recommended it by a friend.
