Those ritualists, man, idk what is their deal, they are always creepy. And thanks! :"D
(Psssst - Sev is actually just a dragon right now; he hasn't cast that crazy rune, like he said. I saw a couple people got confused by that, and it'll get cleared up eventually, but I figured I'd go ahead and let you know. >u> )

Ah, alright, I was thinking he was a dragon originally anyways, but I wasn't sure if dragons weren't also considered "aberrants" in the comic.
Are they still considered evil and dangerous and stuff? Dragons, that is.

No, that totally makes sense! I know every fantasy writer and his brother has this tendency to reinvent classic fantasy creatures, so you can never tell with stuff like this, haha.
Dragons are, for the record, definitely dangerous creatures. Not super common in Varnske, though. Most people have never seen one close up. </randomworldinfo>

Heh, you'd better make sure to have your "random world info" skills up to date, because i'll be sure to ask more questions with future updates. ;3
I mean, I read and extensively commented on Abian (http://www.lendral.com/abian/). It was a big help that Kate, the creator, has essentially everything in the world created and thought out, including, with her as of yet unstarted other comic, an entire language and new periodic table of elements down on paper, even though it will never ever actually come up in the comic itself.

So, what would be the politically correct term then?

Most people use "aberrant." "Demon" just seems so melodramatic.

So glad you linked this on TNH! Somehow I must have missed when you said it was live. Luckily I only missed a couple of pages, and caught it up quickly. So far, I'm liking the concepts that seem to be forming, and the art is terrific. Looking forward to watching the story unfold!

Oh man, thanks so much! It's a lot of fun to draw, and I'm so excited to see you guys are intrigued about what's going on! I can't wait to really get things going.
But yeah, I didn't want to link to it too much early on, since it's only got a few pages. As I get closer to double-digits, I intend to start publicising more. :3

I must say how much I absolutely LOVE small terrified Tareth in panel two. So wonderful and perfect! LOL

See, now I read that more as "horrified and disgusted" (probably because that's the way I'd feel!), but I am with you on loving that little detail. Conveys in a very subtle manner what intruders these Aberrant Hunters must really be.

Thanks guys! I'd say "terrified" and "horrified" are both good descriptions of Tareth's emotional state, honestly.

He will not be killed by an aberrant. He will just give himself a heart attack.
(P.S. - Zim, if you didn't see the rollover text for this page, then your comment is even more entertaining)

I love how expressive your characters are. I've been curious about that. Did you pick most of that up in college? Is it just natural talent? People watching? Expression are just not my strong point. :(

Wow, thank you! Hmmmm, I guess it's kind of... a combination of lots of things. :"O I've drawn expressively since I was teeny-tiny, but obviously everything else -- studying and working to improve, looking at my own face, studying how other artists capture expressions and incorporating that into my own work, etc. is the reason why it's not just the same faces I was drawing when I was two. XD
I can't recall any one book or class or online tutorial that really made expressiveness click. It's just something where I'm constantly trying to learn from others and expand my own range. I feel like NAILING a character's expression and body language is one of the best ways to really communicate in art, so I pay lots of attention to people who are good at it. :3

Might you be willing to provide a few examples of people you believe to be good at expressions? (Other than yourself of course. ;P) I'm trying to get the hang of drawing human-shaped things still, and I often get the feeling that I can only effectively draw a few expressions. Plus, well, more art to look at would be a wonderful thing~ :D

Anyone wanna guess that they're going to mistake Severian for the Aberrant and attack him? Since he...kinda is one when he changes anyway.
Aberrant Hunter woman is rather creepy. You did a good job on emphasizing that...and killing the bird.
