I'm thinking all of the above. He might be a dick, but he's not EVIL. He just wanted to be left alone, not to kill people. And now that all of that's been thrown in his face, he's gonna have a spot of trouble dealing with that. The realization of his own demise would probably spark panic more than anything else. This expression is something a lot deeper than that.
And yes. Sharp blade. Jonan might not handle pain well, but it'll be the least of his worries now.

Wow, didn't see that one coming.
At first I thought he was shocked because he suddenly realised how many people he probably have killed unintendedly (?); but then I came to my senses. We are talking about Jonan, right. He is shocked to realize that he is a goner now.
But can't you just solve this easily -if painfully- by a good sharp blade? I mean he probably can heal bleeding afterwards when he can speak again.
