This wouldn't make me nearly so angry if I wasn't so convinced Xira is really a nice person and just has no idea what a terrible habit he's developed for self-defense.

Very much this!! Aaagh I hope someone manages to stop him... actually what I really hope is that now that he's not panicking in the cross hairs he'll stop himself... but whatever he's in, I worry that's a far-fetched hope. But come on Xira! You've come so far and they trusted you! Tareth trusts you! If you're throwing in your lot, throw it in with these adorkable losers!

It sort of looks like he's planning to remove all memories of himself. I hope that's not the case. I like having Xira in the group, even if he sometimes makes really stupid decisions. Like right now.

Like he'd succeed, though.
We've seen with the cut-lips lady that the result is pretty unstable, and here he has to work on three different persons before any of them wakes up.
Plus there is the AEmber issue.

It's not like he can do anything about her. She is immune to magic and to physical harm.
He could threaten her, but let's be real that has zero chance to work - he wouldn't have any mean of applying his threats, and he would need to really mean them since she can hear... wait. Can she? Can she hear his thoughts? Or does the forcefield block them?
Leaving that aside; I guess what would have the best chance of success would be to negociate with her. To convince her not to tell anything.
Or I guess he could make them forget them both and take her with him but really that's not the most easy-to-forget look, if he carries with him a big blue magic box with a kid inside. (plus, as relatively chill as I am with erasing memories of yourself, as long as nothing he did during those memories has lasting consequences, (that's kind of like a right to the use and stockage of your personal data), erasing memories of someone else crosses the line)
Or he could forget it and just -run- while they are unconscious.

Hmmmno he doesn't want to hurt them, only protect himself, so I'm pretty sure he wouldn't do it. But really with AEmber here he's kind of stuck.

Sev, that big lumbering ogre. He just gets inthe way, Tareth doesn't deserve to suffer his presence. It'd be better if he hated her and left.

The box girl. Well, it can't be helped better for everyone just forget her and push that box into the river. She'll be safe, so it's not even hurting anyone.

As much as I hate being biased against an entire group of people simply because of their birthright, I'd have to agree. Witches with the ability to read minds seem to be utterly OP. After all, nothing can touch you if you make everything forget they wanted to in the first place.
As a mind-reader, you'd have to be conditioned from a really early age to respect others' privacy the way you want others to respect your own. It's just too easy to rob that privacy from them.
