I've always enjoyed the various literary universes where song/verse are the controlling operators of magic - this is a great variation!

I picture the Valar creating Middle Earth, but instead of a Heavenly Choir, it's much more Neil Gaiman, with scruffy twenty-somethings "arting" in the park. Most are grouped near the rim of a stone fountain, laughing and chatting, passing drawings back and forth to collaborate on. One or two have easels and oil paints; the group points and shouts suggestions. A few have sidewalk chalk, and are making like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. On a bench about fifteen feet away is Melkor, sitting by himself, wrapped around a sketchpad, making nasty faces and slashing angrily at the paper with a charcoal stick.

Also, boss candle flame in panel 2!

Ahhh thanks! :"D WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW, RIGHT?

Also it sounds like you really need to start making a fantasy story with this kind of creation myth as well!

So, who else thinks the "We can't really-" part sounds rather suspicious?
I also wonder why he's staring at his forearm tattoos. Is that part of the time-crunch element?

"....Do you hear....sobbing?"
*dies laughing* Ohhhh that was wonderful.

HMMMMmmmm...I wonder what Agorath's wrist markings have to do with the imperitiveness of getting that research? Also, Agorath amuses me, esp. after your caption about him being like a cat. XD

I also find it REALLY ironic that Mr. I'ma-Control-Everyone-Against-Their-Will-Like-Puppets is calling these guys profane. WHAT IS THE BASIS OF YOUR DEFINITION SIR

....Does that candle have a face? I feel very strongly that it has a tiny, tiny face.

Why does Agorath look so cheerful when talking about signing an oath in blood? Why... why would anyone look cheery over such a thing?

Also... so this ritual magic is like... I dunno... a corruption of whatever passes for divine magic? Well, maybe not a corruption of it. Just an expansion of it, it follows some set of rules and these people ain't above tampering with it a little. Err... though, I'm wondering if Iavin's objection is to do with him being religiously devout at all or if it's more to do with ritual magic having a habit of going wrong. Because, you know, runewriting is SO much more reliable. ;>_>

Err... as for the arm-symbol-thing, I'm guessing the symbol is either growing or decaying of its own accord. Either implies that they gave themselves those sweet tats without really knowing what they were doing which... err... sounds a lot like something this organisation would do, I'm not gonna lie.

AW MAN these speculations and theories are just all making me SO HAPPY GOSH. I'm not going to answer ANY of them but these are great and I like the way you think!

Also seconding Rachel, that last comment is wonderful.

Ah, an oath sealed in blood. It's a good thing Agorath doesn't have a habit of, say, changing the terms of magical oaths after people take them, huh? I'm on to you Agorath.

Comment by Why?!?!

Honestly, the thing that keeps grabbing my attention is that Jonan looks much closer in age to Iavin than Master A.

Much as I am wondering what's going on with Sev and all, I can't help but LOVE this little foray into the Agorath Order and the insight it's giving not just about how the magic works, but the politics that inevitably arise. Agorath and Iavin are each cracking me up in their own ways, but Esra is the real bust-up. Control freaks are funny when the world doesn't conform, aren't they? XD

... What would Esra say if he saw my room? Wait, don't answer that.

Also, my cat does exactly the same thing as Quentin sometimes. When I pick him up and dump him down on the sofa to annoy him, he makes an infuriating comeback by making himself comfortable. *sigh*
