I LOVE the big guy's expression when he realizes that Tareth is there - he almost stopped looking mean, he was so busy looking surprised! Tareth's "Oh no" face is equally awesome.
I think the Lord-governor is covering for Severian - I bet that if he knows Tareth, he knows she can read lips.

Silly people, even if she couldn't lip read she can probably read your body language better than most and still figure out what's going on.

I really love the way you handle the deafness thing in your comic- not only how it changes the interactions, but also how you portray it from her point of view.
